Une \u00e9tude r\u00e9cente de Statistique Canada a montr\u00e9 que plus de la moiti\u00e9 des Canadiens \u00e2g\u00e9s de 40 \u00e0 79 ans ont une perte auditive mesurable et que la pr\u00e9valence et la gravit\u00e9 de la perte auditive augmentent avec l\u2019\u00e2ge. La perte auditive subie par les personnes \u00e2g\u00e9es peut avoir de graves cons\u00e9quences sociales et sanitaires, en particulier dans un milieu de soins, o\u00f9 un patient re\u00e7oit de l\u2019information sur sa sant\u00e9 ou des instructions sur la fa\u00e7on de prendre des m\u00e9dicaments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En tant que chef de file national dans le domaine des soins aux personnes \u00e2g\u00e9es, de la r\u00e9adaptation et des soins palliatifs, Bruy\u00e8re a entrepris de voir comment les soins et l\u2019exp\u00e9rience des patients pouvaient \u00eatre am\u00e9lior\u00e9s en s\u2019assurant que ses patients avaient des tests de d\u00e9pistage auditif \u00e0 leur admission. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bruy\u00e8re a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 travailler avec SHOEBOX, une entreprise d\u2019Ottawa fond\u00e9e par le Dr Matthew Bromwhich, professeur agr\u00e9g\u00e9 d\u2019otolaryngologie et d\u2019audiologie \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 d\u2019Ottawa, qui croit en la cr\u00e9ation d\u2019un syst\u00e8me capable d\u2019identifier la perte d\u2019audition, de permettre le changement et d\u2019\u00e9tablir un lien direct avec les soins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c0 l\u2019aide du QuickTest de SHOEBOX, un test de d\u00e9pistage auditif auto-administr\u00e9 facile \u00e0 utiliser, Bruy\u00e8re a lanc\u00e9 un projet de commercialisation qui a test\u00e9 75 patients admis dans leurs services d\u2019hospitalisation en r\u00e9adaptation g\u00e9riatrique. L\u2019objectif \u00e9tait de tester non seulement les r\u00e9sultats auditifs, mais aussi la fa\u00e7on dont l\u2019h\u00f4pital pouvait l\u2019int\u00e9grer \u00e0 ses activit\u00e9s quotidiennes, et de faire du d\u00e9pistage auditif une partie du parcours du patient. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Un r\u00e9sultat accablant\u00a0: 74 sur 75 patients examin\u00e9s avaient une audition \u00ab r\u00e9duite \u00bb ou \u00ab tr\u00e8s r\u00e9duite \u00bb dans au moins une oreille, et 53 % de ces patients avaient \u00e9t\u00e9 non diagnostiqu\u00e9s pr\u00e9c\u00e9demment. Les r\u00e9sultats du Shoebox QuickTest \u00e9taient directement li\u00e9s \u00e0 l\u2019augmentation des soins aux patients am\u00e9lior\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ce projet de commercialisation a eu un impact minimal sur les op\u00e9rations quotidiennes pour le personnel de l\u2019h\u00f4pital, mais des r\u00e9sultats importants pour les patients. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
