October 16, 2026 (Oakville, ON) – The CAN Health Network is pleased to welcome MakeShift to its network.
MakeShift is a Canadian-built workforce scheduling and time and attendance platform that combines people-first design with the intelligence of AI to simplify complex scheduling challenges. By joining the network, MakeShift will help health care organizations overcome scheduling challenges, reduce administrative burdens and give their teams more time to focus on what really matters: supporting their staff and patients.
Today, healthcare organizations face increasingly complex workforce challenges. Staffing shortages, collective agreements, overtime pressures, fatigue management and the need to maintain safe, consistent coverage place significant demands on healthcare leaders. Yet, many organizations still rely on outdated scheduling methods, in some cases even pen and paper. These approaches increase the risk of errors, place additional pressure on already stretched teams and can negatively affect employee satisfaction.
By joining the network, MakeShift aims to help health care organizations overcome scheduling challenges, reduce administrative burdens and give their teams more time to focus on supporting their staff and patients. It brings together intelligent scheduling, workforce demand forecasting, conversational analytics, employee self-scheduling, time and attendance and workforce communication in one solution, while giving employees greater flexibility and control over their work lives.
MakeShift already supports healthcare organizations across Canada, from leading healthcare institutions in Ontario to Alberta Health Services’ Rural Health operations, where its technology helps manage scheduling across geographically dispersed communities.
Building on this experience, MakeShift will now collaborate with Covenant Health and their Inpatient Physician Support teams through the CAN Health Network. Covenant Health is one of Canada’s largest Catholic healthcare organizations and serves as a key partner in Alberta’s integrated health system, operating 19 sites in 13 communities across the province. Together, they will explore how AI-powered scheduling can reduce administrative pressures, improve employee experience and support the delivery of high-quality care to Albertans.
We look forward to seeing what MakeShift and Covenant Health achieve together. It is a strong example of how Canadian innovations, tested in real-world settings, can help address the staffing challenges facing health systems across the country.
