September 25, 2024 (Oakville, ON) – The Coordinated Accessible National (CAN) Health Network is excited to announce its partnership with Zodiac Light Waves Inc., a proudly Canadian company with expertise in providing reliable, secure IT and nurse call solutions for the health care and retirement home industries.

Effective communication between caregivers and patients or residents is an essential part of ensuring the delivery of high-quality and safe care. Traditional nurse call systems rely on outdated technology and wall-mounted buttons that residents or patients must push to notify their nurse or caregiver when they need assistance.

Health care facilities need a flexible and reliable system that allows staff to provide quality care to patients or residents, with the ability to quickly respond to patient needs, enhance staff efficiency and reduce outdated technology, including intrusive overhead paging, leading to a quieter, more peaceful environment.

Zodiac’s state-of-the-art wireless nurse call system consists of a wearable device for patients, enabling real-time monitoring, precise location tracking, as well as automated alerts, including fall detection, which leads to faster response times and intervention. The wireless network that Zodiac Nurse Call System provides is fully redundant and segregated from Wi-Fi on its own 900MHz Network. All the devices are fully monitored, and any fault is reported immediately to the staff. Real-time location monitoring allows staff to quickly identify the location of a patient or resident to ensure their safety and security. The location tracking feature also assists with contact tracing to initiate timely infection prevention and control measures as needed. Zodiac’s system also comes with a built-in wandering resident system to prevent wandering and provide a barrier-free and secure environment for residents.

Through its partnership with the CAN Health Network, Zodiac is running a commercialization project with Covenant Living’s Martha’s House in Lethbridge, Alberta, to upgrade its nurse call and telephone system. This technology is designed to help resident attendants improve resident care and experience by ensuring a reliable and consistent communication channel to protect the safety of residents. The platform will streamline processes for Covenant Living staff members at Martha’s House to ensure timely, personalized and efficient care by modernizing the current paper-based system. Through real-time and accurate location monitoring, Zodiac’s technology will enhance response times and intervention efficiency when a resident is at risk of disorientation or wandering.
