May 14, 2021 (Toronto, ON) – The Coordinated Accessible National (CAN) Health Network and the Centre for Aging + Brain Health Innovation (CABHI), powered by Baycrest, recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding confirming their plans to work together to promote the adoption of Canadian technology that will enhance the delivery of healthcare in older adults. Today, they are launching their first joint initiative, with an open Appel à l’innovation.

The CAN Health Network works directly with healthcare operators to identify their biggest challenges and partner them with Canadian-made technology solutions. The ultimate goal is to enable Canadian companies to be rapidly validated, procured, and scaled across the country and abroad.

CABHI, a solution accelerator focused on driving innovation in the aging and brain sector, will introduce scalable, market-ready agetech and healthtech companies to the Network through their Mentorship, Capital and Continuation (MC2) program, presented in partnership with National Bank.

With today’s joint Call for Innovation, one successful health tech company will receive an opportunity to demonstrate their solution’s benefits via a commercialization project with a CAN Health Network member (known as an Edge). At the conclusion of the project, all Edges will have an opportunity to purchase the solution through a competitive process. The company may also receive an investment and tailored acceleration services from CABHI.

“As our country continues the fight against COVID-19, Canadian agetech companies are ready to play a significant role in helping reopen our national economy and simultaneously provide much-needed support to older adults—the population hit hardest by this pandemic. CABHI’s collaboration with the CAN Health Network will accelerate the uptake of cutting-edge agetech amongst Canadian healthcare and long term care operators, leading to a more effective system and better health outcomes for the most vulnerable among us.” Dr. Allison Sekuler, Managing Director, CABHI, Sandra A. Rotman Chair in Cognitive Neuroscience and Vice-President of Research, Baycrest

“The CAN Health Network aims to provide Canadian technology companies with an integrated marketplace by removing barriers that prevent businesses from growing and scaling to their full potential. Partnering with CABHI provides us with access to some of most advanced, creative, and innovative Canadian technology, and expertise and knowledge from a world renowned organization. ” Dr. Dante Morra, président, Réseau de santé CAN

CABHI gratefully acknowledges the support of its funders: the Government of Canada through the Public Health Agency of Canada, the Government of Ontario through the Ministry of Colleges and Universities, and the Baycrest Foundation.t engagement platform, has helped two healthcare organizations support patients through surgery and homecare during the pandemic. In a timely response to COVID-19, patients at Trillium Health Partners (THP) and now SE Health are benefitting from a suite of virtual care tools, ensuring ongoing patient and community safety following a commercialization project supported through the Coordinated Accessible National (CAN) Health Network.
